One of my favorite units in Social Studies is community helpers. We had fun learning about different people who help others in our community. One project we did was we built our own town in the classroom. We made the roads in our town and then the students came up with a building to put in our community. We had a hospital, fire station, school, restaurant and even a car dealership. Each star represented a different place. To end our unit, the students got to go on a walk to see the town of David City and see what community helpers we could find. We saw banks, the library, fire station, a hair salon, and a police station. It was a perfect ending to the unit and it was a beautiful day!
