In Science, the students talked all about plants. We first made a list of everything we knew about plants and then we talked about what plants need to survive. The kindergarteners got to plant their very own flowers to keep in the classroom. Hopefully when we come to school next week we will see something growing! The students also painted a flower for art class. We learned about a famous artist named Georgia O'Keeffe and how she painted many pictures of flowers. We zoomed up on the flower like Georgia O'Keeffe does in her paintings. and used watercolor to make our pictures beautiful. The flowers really brightened up our hallway! We will have to keep you updated on our blooming plants!
This week, we read three awesome stories about three men from the Bible. We read the stories of David and Goliath, Jonah and the Whale, and Daniel and the Lions. The kindergarteners loved listening to the stories. Each of these men faced danger, but made it through with God on their side. We also found out that these men prayed to God for help which we can do ourselves! We even got to create our own whale to use during a song about Jonah. God is amazing and these stories showed us how much He loves us!
The Kindergarteners did a great job performing in their spring program this week. I was very proud of them and I know they enjoyed performing for you. Thank you Mrs. Mimick for helping us in music. She always comes up with neat ideas for the program!
This week, the kindergarteners had fun learning all about butterflies! In science, we learned about the life cycle of a butterfly. We listed different characteristics of both a caterpillar and a butterfly and compared each insect. We even talked about butterflies in math! We learned an important word: symmetrical. We know that a butterfly's wings are symmetrical. To practice using our new word, the students made their own butterflies with paint. First they cut out their pattern, put three drops of paint on one wing and then pressed both wings together. Finally, we opened up the wings to see the symmetrical design! The last project we completed was in art. The students made their own butterflies like the butterfly in the story "The Hungry Caterpillar." Like Eric Carle, we used tissue paper to make our butterflies.
The students love when we switch things up and write their phonograms a little differently. We have painted our phonograms, used markers, and even used shaving cream to help us practice. We also can practice our spelling words, sight words, and math problems with these fun activities. It's something that you can try at home!
The kindergartners had a blast on their field trip this year. The day went well and we were blessed with awesome weather! We started off our day visiting Memorial Stadium. We got a tour of the stadium and even got to run on the football field! Then, we headed to Oak Lake Park to eat our lunch and play for a bit. We ended our day at the Children's Museum. It was a great day and we are so thankful for all the parents that came with us! I am so excited to get started on my classroom blog! I wanted to find another way to keep parents updated and involved in their child's education and to hopefully give you a closer look into my classroom. Kindergarten is an exciting year of learning and growing. It's always amazing to see their progress throughout the year and I wanted to share that excitement with you. I plan to set up pages for our sight words and spelling words and also keep a list of important skills we will be working on. I also plan to post different activities we do throughout the week which might include pictures and videos. I really hope you enjoy looking through our classroom! I am blessed with great students and parents to work with each year, and I'm excited to share my love of teaching with you!
