This week, the kindergarteners had fun learning all about butterflies! In science, we learned about the life cycle of a butterfly. We listed different characteristics of both a caterpillar and a butterfly and compared each insect. We even talked about butterflies in math! We learned an important word: symmetrical. We know that a butterfly's wings are symmetrical. To practice using our new word, the students made their own butterflies with paint. First they cut out their pattern, put three drops of paint on one wing and then pressed both wings together. Finally, we opened up the wings to see the symmetrical design! The last project we completed was in art. The students made their own butterflies like the butterfly in the story "The Hungry Caterpillar." Like Eric Carle, we used tissue paper to make our butterflies.
