We hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Christmas! We were excited to see the kids last week and they easily jumped right back into things. There are a lot of fun activities coming up this month so we can’t wait to get started!
The kindergarteners learned about the very first Thanksgiving this month and to celebrate this special day, we had our own celebration. The students made pudding for their very own pies to eat in class. We prayed and said one thing we were thankful for before eating our delicious desserts. We are both so thankful for all our wonderful students and families in Kindergarten. We hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving! The seniors came to help disguise our turkeys! There were some creative disguises, I think our turkeys are safe this Thanksgiving!
The ladies from the Legion handed out American flags to the Kinders today to celebrate Veteran’s Day! They were so excited to get the flags and couldn’t wait to put them in a safe place at home!
Technology, as you know, is always changing and growing, and there have been some great additions to our school these past few years involving technology. Our school is blessed to have an iPad cart with 30 iPads. Today, we used these iPads to practice some of our sight words and phonograms. This is a great way to practice these skills and this is something you can do at home, too! We used a chalkboard app and whiteboard app to write out each word. Please let us know if you ever need us to write down these apps to use at home. We will continue using the iPad cart throughout the year!
This month, we have been focusing on the virtue of friendship as a school. The kindergarteners completed an activity this week that showed how hurtful words can be. We read the story “Chrysanthemum.” As we read the story, we would crumple up a paper heart each time someone made fun of Chrysanthemum. We would also try to fix the heart when someone tried to make her feel better. We saw that even though we tried to fix her heart, it was still wrinkled. Hurtful words are hard to forget! We signed the heart and learned a rhyme to help remind us to think before we talk to our friends: Before you speak, think and be smart. It’s hard to fix a wrinkled heart!
What a beautiful day we had to visit Stara's farm this week! The students had fun picking out their own pumpkin and we enjoyed seeing the different shapes and sizes they found. We also enjoyed a special treat before returning. Thank you to the Stara family for letting us come to their farm! Caden came to visit the kindergarteners today. He is Mrs. Smith's one year old son. He had fun playing with all the kids and some of them even made pictures for him to hang in his room. He loved visiting and will have to come back again!
